Roxana VelásquezSan Diego Museum of Art

    Roxana Velásquez is the Maruja Baldwin Executive director of The San Diego Museum of Art. Since her appointment in 2010, the museum has had several highly respected exhibitions, including “Gauguin to Warhol,” 2014–15; “Sorolla and America,” 2014; and “From El Greco to Dalí,” 2011. The museum’s holdings have significantly increased under Velásquez, with donations of works by world-renowned artists including Francisco de Zurbarán and Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida and the acquisition of 920 works of art through donations and gifts. She previously served as the executive director of the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL), and the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, all located in Mexico City. A passionate advocate for the arts, Velásquez focuses on fostering cross-cultural dialogue locally, nationally, and internationally. She has been distinguished by the King of Spain with the Cross of Isabel la Católica for
    outstanding cultural projects of Spanish art organized in Mexico. The Belgian government awarded her the Knight of the Order of the Crown for cross-cultural relations between Belgium and Mexico. Velásquez received an Executive MBA from Arizona State University and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, and a BA in art history from the Universidad Iberoamericana.
