Li LeiShanghai Art Museum (China Art Palace)

    Li Lei is the deputy director of China Art Museum, Shanghai, and a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Previously he was the executive director of Shanghai Art Museum and deputy executive director of Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Institute. He began his research and practice of Chinese abstract art in 1996. In his pursuit of combining Chinese philosophy with the language of international abstract art, he has discovered a unique path for Chinese abstraction. He has held solo exhibitions in Amsterdam, Beijing, Boxmeer, Brussels, Frankfurt, New York, Linz, and Shanghai. His published monographs include Shanghai Oil Painting Master—Li Lei (Shanghai Bookstore Press), Biography of Chinese Contemporary Painters—Li Lei’s Poetic Abstraction (Hebei Education Press), and Li Lei—Chinese Abstractionist (Hatje Cantz).
